It is with great sadness the club marks the passing of long time club member, former player and friend to so many of us Derek 'Dick' Bloom.
Dick played for Oakley during the 1960s, operating on the right wing and playing alongside such other club legends as Mel Pickess, Mick Jennings, Malcolm Stanton, Mick Moules and current walking footballers John Anderson, Gerry Weaver and Billy Tyrell. This was during a particularly successful spell at the club under the guidance of manager Fred Day, standards were high and the competition for places at the time shows what a good player Dick was.
Once his playing days were over Dick remained an enthusiastic member of the club and up till his last days could often be found around the Memorial Ground helping with the many tasks that are undertaken here.
Dick was always a pleasure to be with – a tolerant, friendly and humorous man with a sharply-observed quip always at the ready.
The club wishes to convey its sympathy to all of Dick’s family – who carry on his tradition of quiet friendship and support for our club.
Bless you Dick.
The Funeral will take place at 11.45 on Monday 9th September 2019 at Weeley, followed by a wake at the Little Oakley Memorial Club.
